Blossoming dreams

The poppy is an old friend of us humans. The meaning of this precious cultivated plant, how it is sown, looked after, harvested and processed, how it tastes and what effects it has is explained by a dedicated duo in the Lesachtal Valley: the organic farmwoman Andrea Unterguggenberger and preventative medical practitioner Dr Georg Lexer.

The poppy is an ancient cultivated plant and a survival artist. Cultivated in natural surroundings, the Lesachtal Valley Opium Poppy develops exactly the qualities and active substances that provide healthy rest and relaxation to stressed-out people. Because the lauded and vilified opium poppy not only tastes delicious, it is also an ancient medicinal plant. Organic farmwoman Andrea Unterguggenberger cares for this plant with its wonderful flowers with great dedication at her Peintnerhof farm in the heart of the Lesachtal Valley. Depending on the season, she invites her visitors to sow, harvest, grind and also process the fine seeds from the capsules. The visitors learn many interesting facts and how fine specialities and, for example, oil is made from poppy seeds. The preventative medical practitioner Dr Georg Lexer is also on site and explains the health-promoting effects of the poppy and its use in integrative medicine. If you come to the Peintnerhof farm, then you can look forward to a portion of tasty practice, some interesting theory and an impressive sea of flowers – especially at the annual Poppy Festival.
