Maria Luggau Mill Trail

A tour between the past and present

These are the last of the more than one hundred mills that once rattled in the high-altitude pilgrimage village of Maria Luggau. Anyone who takes a tour with Brigitte Lugger along the Mill Trail to these revived and fully functional cultural mementos quickly notices: everything is a "bit more relaxed, a bit slower" here.

„Farmers have to live with nature, nothing grows overnight“

explains Brigitte Lugger

Just like the milling of the grain according to old artisan traditions. But anyone who has experienced how much water and muscle power the journey from grain to daily bread needed in the past, understands why it is still of such great importance in the Lesachtal Valley today.

The Mill Trail begins at the Bäckwirt inn, leads past the Mill Museum in the Hansila Mill and through the hamlet of Oberluggau, where the founder of the Luggau pilgrimage church once lived. Traditionally, the tour ends with a visit to the Lesachtal farm shop.

Guided tours: Fridays, 10am throughout the summer until the end of September.

Meeting point: Maria Luggau farm shop

Journey to the roots of good taste:
